The Red River opens before us, as we brace the mid-stream of one of Indochina’s great rivers. The 180 horsepower marine engine powers us through the foam, and there’s no doubting The Jewel of the Delta’s proud heritage. She was built in 1996 by a group of American businessmen working in Vietnam for the purpose of corporate hospitality and entertainment and has the distinction of hosting American governors, senators, ambassadors, leading businessmen, writers and celebrities and more recently the President of Vietnam and the Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee
